Vacation in Scottsdale Arizona

Josh, Kari, and Colton went to Arizona Dec. 10. One of the pharmaceutical companies had an "all-expenses" paid meeting at a resort in Scottsdale, AZ. Of course we couldn't pass that opportunity up. While Josh went to meetings, Kari and Colton went to the botanical gardens and an Indian museum. Then we met back up with Josh and we all went horseback riding in the desert and across the Verde River. We had a great time with temp. in the 70's. What a difference from the sub-zero temperatures that we left. Not to mention the foot of snow. Here are some pictures from our adventures.

We learned all about the Saguaro (Sah-WAR-oh) cactus. It only grows in the Sonora Desert and it will not grow an arm until it is at least 50 years old, however they may never grow an arm. They can live up to 250 years. They say you are better off to kill a person than a Saguaro cactus. If they build a road that has cactus in the way, they have to transplant each cactus. There is very specific instructions on how to transplant them. They must be facing the exact same direction and they must be propped up for two years. Their roots are only 4 inches deep and grow out as far as the cactus is tall. They can drink up to 25 gallons of water in a rain storm.

Oh and only John Wayne can get water out of a cactus.

Hi. I wrote a long comment and then I lost it somehow. Anyway, I loved the pictures taken before the Christmas program and the Scottsdale, AZ vacation pictures. Looks like you had a lot of fun and that Colton had everything under control for the trail ride. Love you all. Gma & GG Knoeppel
